Recording and Listening Blog

“What does the heart say?” the still small voice asks.

Relax. Be. Enjoy. Breathe. Open. Receive. Participate.

And pick up the recorder! Touch base with the Mentor!

I’ve recently left a long-term relationship and moved to another country. Throughout this process the Mentor has provided support, guidance, encouragement, consolation and reminders to breathe through the undulations. How? Like many practice tools it’s very simple (but not always easy if we listen to egocentric karmic conditioning/self-hate)—record and listen.

When I began this journey (literally and spiritually), I made a commitment to increase my R/L practice. It has been a life-saver. It has brought equanimity in the face of the emotional storm. It has encouraged me to be patient and trusting when facing what seemed to be insurmountable challenges. It provided opportunities to strengthen my faith muscles. And it has reminded me that I’m not alone in a new city being beaten by the voices but am always supported by Sangha, Awareness Practice, and Life.

One of the biggest gifts is the reinforcement that no matter what happens—internally or externally—there is nothing wrong. Nothing I need to do to fix or change anything or anyone. I show up with a cupful of willingness, a pinch of curiosity and a generous sprinkling of gratitude. The knowledge that I can only see a small part of the big picture reminds me everything is perfect and I can relax in trust and faith while the big picture unfolds.

I need never be alone. I can reach out and the Mentor’s hand will be there. I can move through whatever comes with faith and gratitude for Practice.

“What does the heart say?” the still small voice asks. I smile and press record.
