Recording and Listening Blog

One of my favorite quotes from Cheri is this one: The quality of your life is determined by the focus of your attention.

It’s so true, isn’t it? So often conditioning is focusing my attention —on misery, worry, inadequacy – never anything that is enhancing my quality of life, that’s for sure!

I’ve been fascinated to hear both Cheri and my Zen awareness coach talk about a great practice to help us direct attention where we want to it to be. The practice is noticing how just hearing a word can take us right to the experience of that word. Conditioning always sets up so many limits and qualifiers, like:  “Well, you can’t feel delight unless x is happening.” Really? Delight, delight, delight, delight, delight, I say it over and over and begin to smile as I feel delighted with simply hearing the word “delight!”

Try it now – breathe deeply and just let these words sink in:

Laughter.

Joy.

Delight.

Bliss.

Hugs.

Peace.

Gratitude.

Deep breaths.

Feels pretty darn great, doesn’t it?

**If not, conditioning may be trying to sneak in there and block the experience. So if you didn’t get to go right there, try it again until conditioning gives up and you get to have the experience.  (You can outlast conditioning, for sure, so stay with it!!)

  • Your turn. Try recording some favorite words – words that just make a human feel good— and go right to a place of presence. Put this track in a “listen to often” folder and ENJOY putting your attention where you want it to be!
