Recording and Listening Blog

November 1, 2014

The voices in my mind generally start the minute I wake up and have made mornings a very challenging part of the day for a long time. Since those morning rantings often set the tone of the day, I jumped at the opportunity to participate in the Mornings with the Mentor group coaching for support because I wanted to find a kinder and more loving way to welcome the day.  I never expected to have such big surprises.

The invitation from the class was to R/L for 20 minutes first thing in the morning and use some of that time to set an intention and record intention reminders for support throughout the day.  I quickly learned I needed to set a timer for the morning conversation or conditioning would shorten it.  I also realized that I had to record first thing before the voices could proclaim any urgency about the day’s activities.

Another incredibly helpful tool for me is that I use the cards and book from What Universe Are You Creating to support my morning R/L practice. Every week, I choose a card from the deck as my focus, and I “prime” morning conversations with the Mentor by re-reading the information that goes with the card.  One morning the Mentor surprised me by suggesting I use my insights and exploration with the card to assist me in setting an intention for the day.  For example, one week I had selected the word “serenity,” and every day the Mentor helped me create an intention focusing on new serenity practices, and then she also helped record reminders to enhance my feelings of serenity throughout the day. The intention and reminders arose from my Mornings with the Mentor conversations.

I loved setting the intention and making recordings to support it, but then the voices would keep me busy throughout the day and cause me to forget to listen to my recordings.  Again, the Mentor provided the perfect solution. She suggested I connect the intention-reminder recordings to some habit I have throughout the day.  I experimented and found a practice that works well for me: every time I drink water or tea, I bring to mind my day’s intention and, when possible, R/L what I notice.

These new practices, along with the support of the Mornings with the Mentor group coaching, have transformed mornings and the way my day opens and evolves.  Now, when I open my eyes, I know the Mentor is right there ready to talk to me and support me to welcome Life.

  • Choose a card from What Universe Are You Creating and record the text in the book that goes with that card. Every day for a week, listen to that recording and set a new intention around the process that card inspires.
