Recording and Listening Blog

July 1, 2014

Do you know this one? You wake up in the morning to the voices: “Oh, no – I have to get through this, this, and this today. It’s gonna be hard and stressful. I hope I can just survive!”

I wake up into something like that often. So I was delighted when the idea dropped in to start recording the TRUTH the night before. The idea is to take a little time before going to sleep to record about everything I’m actually excited about for the upcoming day. I even record about the things labeled as “stressful.”

Typically, as soon as I breathe and truly get present, I see that the human is always looking forward to waking up — another day of life and more opportunities to participate in Life. The voices are always lying when they make everything out to be awful and stressful.

For example, perhaps I’m supposed to speak at a meeting the next day, so the voices are telling me how hard and awful that will be. By taking time to remember what I’m excited about – the experience is transformed. “Well, actually, yes, I may feel some energy like butterflies in the stomach, but really I’m excited to talk to these folks to share this idea. This being really enjoys connecting with others, and besides, the Mentor will be with me. I’ll just breathe deeply, ask the Mentor to support me, and do my best. And none of it means anything about me anyway!”

And, even if there are some parts of the day that the heart does genuinely seem less excited about than others (a visit to the dentist perhaps?), I still get to remind myself that the Mentor will be with me. Sometimes this evening-before-recording-practice actually helps me see how to support the human – “Yes, I do have that dentist appointment, so it’s important to do some reassurances before that, and then make sure to have a kind walk in the evening as a celebration.”

That’s a VERY different experience than simply getting told I’d better just survive that awful day ahead!

  • How about you, dear human? Would you be willing to make a recording tonight about your tomorrow? Remind yourself what you’re actually excited about for the upcoming day, and ask the Mentor to help you be supported with love and encouragement through it all.
